Press Play | Transcending Sound's Favorite Songs of 2018
There was a lot of good music out this year.
Most of what I loved this most in 2018 music-related involved R&B more than hip-hop.
Even though the self-proclaimed King of R&B, Jacquees, didn’t make the playlist, R&B had a great year. Both H.E.R. and Ella Mai had a major year, we heard new music from a lot of oldies but goodies (ex. Tamia, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey), and newcomers like ChloexHalle came out with amazing projects. Indie creatives VanJess and Joy Postell released amazing music as well. SiR and Masego had a great 2018 as well.
That doesn’t mean hip-hop wasn’t good this year. There were great releases from Black Thought, Nipsey Hussle, Black Milk, Phonte, Jay Rock and Anderson .Paak. But, there was too much drama in hip-hop for me to really pay attention to all of the music. And, when some of the drama died down, I still didn’t find a lot of reason to connect to it all.
Many of the things that I really enjoyed showed up in this twenty-something track playlist of my favorites from 2018, which I placed solely on Spotify. Check out the playlist by clicking the photo.
