#PressPlay | Transcending Sound’s Fall 2020 Playlist

We’ve reached the beginning of six years in supplying season playlists!

The playlists are one of my favorite things to create content-wise for the site. However, my brain has been all over the place recently. With the election coming, COVID-19 plus flu season pulling up harder, the change in weather, plus personal, work and Transcending Sound things running through my mind, it feels like a lot. So, while finalizing this playlist, I listened to it in the dark. It’ll have you vibing, for sure, but may also have you sitting with your thoughts, your feelings. I’m okay with that though — take the time out to sit with those energies and process them. It’s been a difficult time for many, if not all, of us.

If you’ve paid attention to the previous season playlists, I’m drawn to majority R&B-based playlists or (even) slower vibes for the fall and winter playlists. I tried to change it this time around by including various tempos and sprinkling some hip-hop in it (via Benny The Butcher and Black Thought), but it’s still a mostly slow burn.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: I truly don’t think we discuss R&B enough. And, when we do, we discuss some of the same names. I try to steer clear of those names in these playlists, but I can’t deny a bop. H.E.R.’s new single, “Damage,” has been on rotation, so I had to include it. It feels so good.

It’s a lot of repeat creatives in this playlist. For example, UK artists J Warner and Demae have been on previous TS playlists, with the songs on this playlist being from their newest album releases. Baltimore artists Elle Cook, Rose Gold and Zadia have also been on previous playlists, with Zadia recently being on Episode 002’s playlist for the podcast.
